The Maldives has launched National
Policy on Physical Activity for Healthier Living.
The main objective of developing the National
Guidelines for Physical Activity is to improve public awareness of the
importance of physical activity and exercise for healthy living, as well as to
encourage an active lifestyle, which is a critical intervention for reducing
non-communicable diseases
Physical
activity policies and guidelines aim to lower the percentage of persons who are
not sufficiently active to 10% by setting up chances for exercise in a secure
setting. The policy is also primarily based on developing and increasing
knowledge among those working in the field and collaborating with pertinent
sectors.
The
policy is based on four main principles: changing people's attitudes toward
exercise, increasing awareness of physical activity, and educating people about
healthy living.
