Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Khaleel has called for an end to the
persecution of Muslims in Gaza, emphasizing that healthcare is a fundamental
human right. Addressing the 77th World Health Assembly, Dr. Khaleel expressed
deep concern over the loss of civilian lives and the destruction of health
facilities in Gaza, urging international action to protect human rights and
health services in the region.
Dr. Khaleel called on all nations to work towards alleviating the
humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to support efforts for a peaceful resolution.
He stressed that the protection of health services in Gaza is a critical
concern for the global community.
Additionally, Dr. Khaleel highlighted the severe impact of climate change on
low-lying island nations like the Maldives. He discussed the issues of Soil erosion and Coral bleaching which are adversely affecting the country's tourism and
fisheries sectors.
In his remarks, Dr. Khaleel also addressed the growing threat of non-communicable
diseases (NCD's) to health systems and underscored the importance of strengthening
primary health care.
