The Maldives and the Philippines have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in health and social welfare following an official courtesy call between Maldives’ Minister of Health, Family and Welfare, Geela Ali, and the Ambassador of the Philippines to the Maldives.
During the meeting, Minister Geela Ali expressed appreciation for the continued support and partnership provided by the Government of the Philippines in advancing the Maldives’ social development initiatives.
A key focus of the discussions was the progress of the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Health Cooperation, which is expected to serve as a framework for expanding long-term collaboration between the two countries in the healthcare sector.
The Minister also highlighted the Maldives’ ongoing need for qualified healthcare professionals and sought continued support from the Philippines in recruiting and deploying skilled medical personnel. The two sides discussed opportunities to strengthen health workforce development, facilitate institutional knowledge exchanges, and enhance healthcare service delivery across the Maldives.
Beyond healthcare, discussions extended to social welfare cooperation, with both parties identifying potential areas for technical collaboration and policy exchange. These include disability support and inclusion programs, elderly care services, and child protection systems.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming the strong ties between the Maldives and the Philippines and expressing a shared commitment to advancing cooperation in health, social development, and institutional capacity-building.
The discussions reflect the growing partnership between the two nations and their mutual interest in improving public services and social well-being through sustained collaboration.
