The Dharavandhoo Health Centre in Baa Atoll has officially launched dialysis services, a key step in the government’s healthcare decentralisation efforts. Inaugurated by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, the new facility aims to relieve patients previously forced to travel to Malé for kidney treatment. With two dialysis beds and an internal medicine specialist on site, the centre is set to offer essential, localised care.
This development aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s goal to expand healthcare access across the outer islands. Despite the progress, dialysis services are still unavailable in four atolls: Alifu Dhaalu, Vaavu, Faafu, and Dhaalu.
