The Minister of Health, Family and
Welfare, Geela Ali, received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of the
People’s Republic of China to the Maldives, Kong Xianhua.
During the meeting, both sides
highlighted the strong and longstanding cooperation between the Maldives and
China in the health sector and social development, including past collaboration
in capacity building, technical assistance, and health system strengthening.
Discussions also focused on future areas
of cooperation, particularly support for the development of health services in
the Maldives, including the upcoming 100-bedded hospital in Villimale. The
meeting also explored opportunities for further human resource development,
including training and capacity building for health professionals to strengthen
service delivery.
The Minister expressed appreciation for
China’s continued partnership and support, and reaffirmed the Government’s
commitment to further strengthening cooperation in health services and social
development.
