Minister of Health Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has attended
the “Climate-Health Ministerial” meeting on today during the “28th
Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP28)” held at Dubai, United Arab
Emirates from 30th November
to 12th December 2023. The Health Minister will deliver a
statement at “Climate-Health Ministerial” meeting on today.
The conference is being attended by 70,000 participants,
including heads of states, international leaders from various industries,
representatives of private businesses, experts from different fields, youth and
NGOs. And this was the first ministerial meeting on health at a UNFCCC COP
meeting.
The meeting will focus on the country’s
sustainable development plans related to climate-health at the international
level, including raising awareness on climate change and mitigation initiatives.
It will also discuss what can be done to address the health impacts of climate
change and adopt a declaration called “Declaration on Climate and Health”,
which is agreed upon by the health ministers of the Member States.
Minister of Health, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel will also
address at an event on reducing the impact of climate change on mental health
organised by COP28 Youth Climate Champion and Wellcome Trust. On the sidelines
of the meeting, Maldivian delegation will be meeting with high level officials
from other countries to discuss bilateral collaborations on strengthening the
health workforce and other collaborative areas.
