The meeting was held from 2nd to 6th September 2019 in New Delhi, India. Ministers and high-level delegates from all 11 Member States of the WHO South-East Asia region took part in this year’s meeting. The meeting was also attended by the Director General of WHO, Regional Director for South-East Asia Region, representatives from UN agencies, other partner organization and civil society.
The delegation from Maldives was led by Minister of Health, His Excellency Abdulla Ameen, accompanied by Ambassador of Maldives to India Her Excellency Aishath Mohamed Didi and high level officials from Ministry of Health and Maldivian Embassy in New Delhi
During this meeting important regional health resolutions were endorsed, health decisions were taken and the health ministers signed a declaration to work together on Emergency Preparedness in the South-East Asia Region.
WHO also awarded certificates and awards to Member States for their outstanding public health achievements. This year, Maldives received the certification for Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of Syphilis and HIV/Aids.
During the meeting many other important areas were also discussed. The committee deliberated discussions on managing tuberculosis in the region and health complications due to climate change. Furthermore, the committee also discussed on working together to eliminate cervical cancer and the progress of work on health-related Sustainable Development Goals.
