Ministry of Health has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Public Health of the Republic of Cuba on the area of Health Cooperation. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the meeting held with the Minister of Public Health Dr. José Angel Portal Miranda on the sidelines of the 72nd Session of the World Health Assembly taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.
The areas of collaboration under this MOU include recruitment of medical doctors and allied health professionals, human resource development of the health sector, testing of pharmaceuticals, food samples, microbiological, chemical and environmental laboratory services
During the meeting, Minister thanked the Cuban Public Health Minister for the continuous support the health sector of Maldives has been receiving from Cuba in capacity building of doctors. Minister also discussed opportunities for further training programmed for doctors and short-term training and specialization opportunities for nurses.
Along with Minister, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Dr. Hala Hameed, the high-level staff of the Ministry of Health and Permanent Mission of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva joined the meeting.
