Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has attended the inauguration of Apollo Proton Cancer center (APCC) in Chennai, India, as a special envoy of the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The APCC was inaugurated by the Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu.
Minister Ameen visited the facilities and met the management of APCC and acquired information about the technology, which is the first ever proton technology that has built in the south Asia region to treat Cancer.
The 150 bed cancer center will offer proton therapy to cancer patients using pencil beam scanning technology with the highest degree of precision. This facility also includes advanced radiation oncology center, medical oncology and immunotherapy facility, three proton therapy rooms and high-end day care chemo wards.
Proton therapy is the latest technology to treat many kinds of cancers, especially effective on tumors.
During five day visit, Minister Ameen met with Health Minister of Kerala State and discussed about collaborative works that could be done to improve health sector of the Maldives.
Health Minister also visited some hospitals in Trivandrum and met with management of those hospitals. He also acquired information about their operations and different facilities they have got.
